Micheal Mc Eniff, Peter Mc Gonagle and Asley Mulhearn will be representing the Bundoran club on the Donegal Minor Squad this weekend against Down. We wish them and the rest of the team well. Hopefully Down will not know what hit them.

The senior match against Carndonagh has been changed to Sunday in Gaelic Park to facilitate fans going to the County minor match on Saturday. The best of luck to the Bundoran boys as well as the rest of the team in that match.

While the senior team had a bad day at the office the county minor team etched out a 3 point win against the Antrim Minors. This may not have been a vintage team performance from the young donegal men but a win under their belts and the pressure of studying for the state examinations now passed means that concentration will be much more intensified on progressing further in the Championship. Bundoran can take great pride in their part in insuring the county progressed. Exceptional performances from Peter Mc Gonagle and a ‘Man of the Match’ performance from Micheal Mc Eniff insures that they are definate starters for the match against Down. A great start by Donegal saw them score six points with three from the boot of Micheal Mc Eniff . At Half-time the score was 9-6 in Donegals favour and while Antrim came close to parity but Micheal scored his fourth point to restore a two point lead. Two more scores from Molloy and Mc brearty put paid to Antrims chances and while they scored one more point it never looked like Donegal were going to lose this one. The match finishing 14-11 in Donegals favour. Another win against Down even with a close scoreline will more than suffice.
There was no senior or reserve game last week and there will be none for the next two weeks.
Bundoran U14s started their 2009 campaign in stylw with a home win against Killybegsand they have a tough match today wednesday against Aodh Rua. They are at home to Ardara at 7.30 on Wed June 17th.

Bundoran Bord Na nOg Annual Social was as usual a huge success. A huge vote of thanks to all the organisers and especially the musicians who turn out year in year out to support this wonderful event. All sponsors deserve a vote of thanks and the people of Bundoran that support this event every year should also be commended. Although it is easy to see why people support this event. It is a great night out and one wonders how any work was done on Wednesday as the night did seem to run rather late. Some photos below will give you some idea of how the night went.

The Bundoran senior team got back on the winning trail after two heavy defeats in their previous two league games. They beat Urris by 3-14 to 0-9 with ten different players getting on the score-sheet. Next up is Sean MacCumhaills in the championship. The Reserves also won but had to endure a spirited comeback from Urris – leading by 3-8 to 0-1 at half-time they only had five points to spare at the final whistle on a 3-12 to 4-4 scoreline.
At underage level , despite some quite heavy showers a successful under-8 blitz was run in Gaelic park on Saturday morning. Many thanks to all the parents who helped out, to Pat Walsh who prepared the field and to Pat, Barry Keaney and Paul McGrath for referee-ing. The under-14s lost at home to table-toppers Ardara in Gaelic Park last Friday on a 1-6 to 3-11 score-line and their next game is away to Kilcar on Wednesday July 2nd and at home to Four Masters the following Wednesday. The under-16s play Four Masters in their Donegal Adventure Centre semi-final on Friday July 4th and the minors are out in the Britton All-Sports Regional League Final against Dungloe on Wednesday July 7th. The Under-10s travel to Pettigo for a four team blitz that will also involve Naomh Brid and Aodh Ruadh on Saturday July 4th. The bus will leave St Macartan’s National School at 10.30.

Congratulations to Trevor McGlone, Lawrence Goan and the under-16s who won the County Division 1 under-16 title last Friday evening in Convoy. In a gritty display Bundoran recovered from the concession of 1-1 in the first minute to record a 1-13 to 2-5 victory against Milford who, along with St Eunans, were their bogey team at this level over the last five years. Two points behind 2-2 to 0-6 at the break, a Brandon Goodwin goal early in the second half gave Bundoran a lead they were never to relinquish.
Elsewhere it was a less encouraging week as the Seniors fielded a weakened side for the second week in succession and suffered a crushing home defeat at the hands of Naomh Mhuire. The Reserves, on the other hand, had a comfortable 2-14 to 0-11 victory. The u-14s also lost at home to Killybegs. This coming week sees the u-21s start their championship campaign against Moville in Gaelic Park, while the u-14s have games scheduled against Ardara (at home) tonight Thursday and Kilcar, away, next Wednesday. The Seniors and Reserves are due to play Urris in Gaelic Park in Gaelic Park this Sunday.
The News and Views town league reached its finale on Saturday in Gaelic Park with James Cassidy-managed Munster coming from behind to defeat Gerry Oates-managed Connacht in a thrilling game. Leinster defeated Connacht in the third place play-off. This coming Saturday an u-8 blitz will be held in Gaelic Park.
A note has already been sent home to parents askingthem to please help with this annual event. Finally, there are still places left in the VHI GAA Cul Camp.
Forms available from John McEniff or Teresa in the school.

There will be a general meeting on Monday 10th November. Everyone asked to attend to insure final organisation requirements for dinner dance. Dinner dance tickets available from Declan Mc Caughey or club member.
Seamus Grenaghan will be entered into Bundoran GAA Hall of Fame officially on Friday 21st of Nov at the club Dinner dance.
And when you look at his sporting resume all you can say is why did it take so long?. The list of sporting achievements makes it difficult to know where to start. A long and distinguished career in club football started with St Josephs and finished with Bundoran.
He possesses 7 Senior Championship medals with St Josephs and 1 with Bundoran. He has 5 league medals, 4 achieved with St Josephs and 1with Bundoran
Honours also include medals in intermediate championship, juvenile championship, and a hurling award when playing with Erne valley
That list of awards would look impressive on any C.V but we have not even mentioned his county and provincial achievements yet
Seamie has 2 Ulster Championship medals with Donegal, 3 Lagan cup medals and 1 Mc Kenna cup medal.
Throw in 1 Railway Cup appearance, 3 Ulster Club Championship medals, an All- Ireland Club medal with St Josephs, an Ulster Championship Junior hurling medal. Oh! just one more thing he played for Donegal from 1965 until 1972
All this demanded great commitment and Seamus had it in spades. Seamus is a great personality and is the first to say that his success stemmed from the great support he had from his family and his work colleagues. There were many times when his work colleagues stood in for him at work on the milk run so that he could pursue this continued onslaught of success on the playing fields of Ireland. So it is only fitting that his family , wife Joan and 5 daughters Julie Jacqueline, Elaine, Leslie and Colleen will have the opportunity to see him receive a most deserved award in The Great Northern Hotel on Friday 21st November.
The final touches are being put to the social event of the year in Bundoran. Tickets are in great demand and considering that Bundoran GAA have pulled off the Coup of the year by attracting the popular act ‘ The Gary Gamble Show’ to their annual dinner dance the final few tickets are expected to be snapped up very quickly. All are welcome
The dynamic Gary, already a big attraction in his own right, is now joined by the vivacious Elaine Boyle and together they front a multi-talented band in a stage act that is helping to bring a new dimension to country music
Both Gary and Elaine have already charted successful solo careers but now their combined talents have helped to create an extra-special offering that is wooing fans everywhere.
Bright and breezy, punchy and powerful, their show zips along ensuring that their audiences are left gasping for breath
If you like being entertained do not miss this event because it promises to be a fantastic night.
The Guest of Honour on the night will be Danny Murphy Director Ulster Council GAA and also a special guest on the night will be Seamie Grenaghan and his family as he is invited into the Bundoran GAA Hall of Fame. Tickets are a steal at only €30 for a fabulous dinner and a great nights entertainment and can be bought directly from The Great Northern Hotel Bundoran Phone 0719841204 or contact Declan Mc Caughey Bundoran or any committee member
Bundoran amd Downings have had their own mini league running this season and it culminates this Saturday with a play off battle that will see one of them being relegated. Under 21 B Championship Final
Report by John Mc Eniff
Bundoran 3-8 Sean MacCumhaills 1-3
The 2009 u-21 B championship has found its way to Bundoran. It was fourth time lucky for Pat Walsh who had seen his team fall at the final hurdle in this competition in each of last three years. Despite the emphatic nature of the score-line it was the final quarter before Bundoran shook off a tenacious and committed MacCumhaill’s challenge. Bundoran, though, were stronger through most areas of the pitch and while the twin town’s side had the margin back to four points with fifteen minutes to go, the Seasiders moved up a gear and hit an unanswered 1-4 to close out the game.
MacCumhaill’s started the game without their senior star Stephen O’Reilly. Darren Brown took his allotted position at full-forward and John Lynch moved to the middle of the park. From the outset Bundoran were on the attack, Darragh Hoey going close and then Chris Patton pulling off a good save from Jonathan McHale. Jonny Ward won the break from the resultant 45m and lofted over the game’s opening score. The Bundoran corner-forward also bagged the game’s opening goal three minutes later, running onto a pass from Shane Moohan and firing the ball to the corner of the net. Bundoran were well on top at this stage with Ward particularly prominent, but they were not making it count on the scoreboard with two kickable frees and a 45 unconverted. MacCumhaills on the other hand were making no headway, particularly upfront. Any balls that found their way into their full forward line were won by Bundoran with Gavin Croghan, Ryan Walsh and Diarmuid McCaughey winning all the early battles for possession. It was the end of the first quarter before MacCumhaills finally got a shot at the target – Darren O’Leary winning a free which Brian Patton converted. Bundoran responded well with Ward setting up Ashley Mulhern, whose point moved the margin back out to four, and when Mulhern returned the compliment minutes later Ward’s low drive went wide.
MacCumhaills were finally beginning to make some headway, John Doherty recording their first wide on the twenty minute mark. Shortly after Kevin McManus, in the Bundoran goal, had to get down smartly to turn Chris McDaid’s shot around the post. O’Leary pointed a 50 m free to reduce the margin to a goal a score-line that did not reflect Bundoran’s early dominance. However, in the last five minutes of the half, Bundoran found their shooting boots to double their score and go into the break winning by 2-4 to 0-2. The first of these scores came from a turnover when Ciaran Gunn dispossessed Darren McGowan around the middle of the park. Bundoran’s McHale secured the ball and went on a strong 30 m run before being hauled down and Ward converted the free. Patton then saved from Moohan, but a sideline ball into the danger area was well fielded by Ciaran McCaughey who cleverly fed Darragh Hoey and the centre forward gave Patton no chance with a blistering drive for Bundoran’s second goal. McCaughey followed up with a well taken point and an eight point deficit for MacCumhaills to re-motivate themselves with during the break.
Stephen O’Reilly replaced Lee Henderson at the break but he had little immediate impact with Bundoran looking more comfortable in the early minutes. MacCumhaills were not going to relinquish their title easily though. Darren Brown hit the post on six minutes, Packie Gallen had an opportunity from the rebound but McManus saved well. O’Leary pointed the resultant 45 and the twin town’s side were visibly lifted. A turnaround looked on the books five minutes later when O’Leary’s strong run ended with a shot to the top left-hand corner of the net and the margin was back to four points, 2-4 to 1-3. The goal was their first score from play and while it also turned out to be their last it was not for want of effort.
Rossa McKiernan started the Bundoran comeback, breaking forward to take a pass from Shane McGowan and dissecting the posts from distance. Darren Brown posted a wide and then McManus saved well from Brian Patton. Michael McEniff replaced the injured Ciaran Gunn on the three-quarter mark and quickly got his name on the score-board taking a pass from Shane Moohan and pointing from a difficult angle. The margin was back out to six points and while it didn’t deflate MacCumhaills it calmed Bundoran nerves. On twenty minutes a hospital pass to Ashley Mulhern saw the young minor flattened and Darragh Hoey stepped up to convert what was a tricky spot kick. He had an easier job five minutes later when Jonathan McHale was fouled and MacCumhaill’s grip on the silverware was getting looser. It was almost prised off minutes later. McKiernan broke up a MacCumhaills attack, fed Peter McGonigle who ran 30 metres before passing to Ward. He unselfishly squared the ball to McEniff who stepped inside an off-balance Grindle and slotted the ball home. The game ended in thundering hailstones with the twin town’s team gamely attacking the Bundoran goal, but it was the Seasiders who were the deserving victors and in truth they were much the better side on the day.
The spine of the Bundoran team were very strong throughout and best for Bundoran were captain Shane McGowan, Diarmuid McCaughey, Adam Dunmore and the two Jonathans – McHale and Ward. That said, however, it was a very good team performance and MacCumhaills were unfortunate to meet a Bundoran side where not a single player had an off-day and as a team functioned very well. The fact that they only conceded a single score from play is indicative of how well they defended as a unit. For the losers, Gerard Grindle. John Lynch, Darren McGowan and John Doherty played well, while Darren O’Leary really caught the eye with a never-say-die performance. Terence McGinley presented the trophy on behalf of the county board, thanking Four Masters for the use of the pitch and the officials for a well-officiated match. While the hits were hard and a couple of flashpoints emerged, referee Tony Gallagher and his linesmen Terence McShea and Shaun Campbell always had what was a free-flowing game well under control.

It is a donation that the Club is delighted to have but hopes it never has to use. Many thanks to Arthur Rafferty and the Birds Nest for this most thoughtful donation.

BUNDORAN IN CRUISE CONTROL AT CARNDONAGH
Carndonagh 1-5
Bundoran 4-11
Most who attended this Intermediate Football Championship First Round tie were expecting a tight encounter. An hour and a half later the home supporters were left wondering what happened as Carndonagh were thoroughly dismantled by an impressive Bundoran side. The omens were not good for the seniors as their reserve side was beaten earlier in the day by the men from down the county but this capitulation from Carndonagh was totally unexpected. In fact such was their domination Bundoran could count themselves unfortunate not to have won by more. Along with their advantage in terms of size the away side were given far too much freedom through the middle by Carndonagh who suffered an off day. Bundoran racked up an impressive eight different scorers and the fact that one of their players scored as many points as the entire Carndonagh side tells you all you need to know about this game.
It took a while for the game to get going and Bundoran drew first blood with a free over by the imposing Christy Keaney. Keaney was an impressive presence throughout and hit just wide moments later after a driving run. Carndonagh had their chances too with Darren Burke hitting wide from a free and Ryan Davenport sending in a ball that was hit straight at Kevin McManus. Carndonagh did draw level with Burke hitting over from a tight angle. Unfortunately for Carndonagh this would be their last score of the match as Bundoran ran riot with an unanswered 2-4 before the interval.
The onslaught started when a good flowing Bundoran move ended with Michael McEniff slamming home past Martin Mooney. The Carndonagh custodian had to pick the ball out of his net again within three minutes; Peter McGonagle rampaged through the Carndonagh defence and laid the ball off to Christy Keavney who gave Mooney no chance from close range. Carndonagh couldn’t deal with Bundoran at this point and conceded again when Dessie McNamara put over from play on the 20 metre line. Christy Keavney went 10 better scoring from 30 meters. Bundoran were toying with the home side at this point and Tommy Hourihane sent over a great score from 40. It could have been worse for Carndonagh as Hourihane missed a free and also shot wide before the break. Bundoran added one more score when Christy Keaney hit over after being teed up by Hourihan.
Things couldn’t get much worse for Carndonagh and to their credit they were much better in the second half. Darren Burke started the mini comeback with a good score from a tricky position after good play from Ryan Davenport. They grabbed another one when Dominic Doherty scored from distance. Carndonagh were piling forward and could count themselves unlucky not to increase their tally with Declan O’Donnell having a goal bound effort blocked and Burke hitting the post from a free.
Bundoran responded with Gerard McCaughey firing over after a good run through the Carn defence and Christy Keaney with a free from 14 yards Burke grabbed another for Carndonagh in between. Burke had another chance but put his 45 wide. Christy Keaney claimed another two points for the visitors and Niall Dunne claimed his first of the day after being teed up by Gerard McCaughey.
Bundoran effectively ended the game when Hourihan scored their third goal after being set up by McEniff. Bundoran continued the rout with an easy score from sub Fergal McKearnan. Carndonagh gained consolation scores through Gerard Doherty whose point went in off the bar and a goal for Cathal O’Kane. The Carndonagh faithful hoped that this would at least make the scoreline respectable but almost immediately Declan Rafferty banged in another goal to make the demolition job complete. It looks like Carndonagh have an impossible mission on July 5th in Bundoran.
Bundoran Reserves had an equally good startin their competition recording a 2-12 to 2-7 victory against the same opponents.
